Barmouth Viaduct - Permanent Way

KGJ Price were contracted to provide Permanent Way services to Alun Griffiths to remove the existing jointed track over Barmouth Viaduct inc the Northern Approach, Assemble VIPA Baseplates and Slave Rail on the bridge sections offline in the compound, creation of a temporary running railway to allow removal of the bridge temporary works through to install of the permanent running rails, guard rails and packing to final alignment over numerous visits during a 3 month Blockade in Autumn 2023

Core Elements & Scope:
- 320 Pandrol VIPA Baseplates installed Direct Fix to stools welded to the metallic structure – each with 4 x threaded bar, spring washer and double nut arrangement.
- 88 x Vossloh Cogifer Bull Head Guard Rails Mounts installed Direct Fix to stools welded to the metallic structure – each with 4 x threaded bar, spring washer and double nut arrangement.
- 26 x Carver Engineering Bespoke Bull Head Guard Rails Mounts installed Direct Fix to stools welded to the metallic structure – each with 6 x M24 Bolt & Washer arrangement.
- 16 x New CEN56 Running Rails supplied and installed.
- 12 x Serviceable Bull Head Guard Rails supplied and installed.
- All new associated fishplates, bolts and lubricant supplied and installed.
- All installed baseplates, rails and guard rails installed to design alignment and gauge using total station – much higher installation tolerance in 2102 Appendix A due to track being direct fix.
- Approx 1800 Bolts to install and torque.
- Approx 60 Temporary Joints to install as part of temporary works in severely reduced working space (<900mm height).
- Approx 1500 Shims / Packers installed to set track to final alignment
